Banning did some logging this past winter for tree health and large park projects coming up along roads and parking areas. Please use caution and stay out of areas that may be marked temporary closed for work.

Skunk Cabbage Bridge closure The lower Skunk Cabbage Trail along the Kettle River is closed. The bridges are unsafe to walk on and need to be replaced.
Shower building replacement project The shower building in the campground at Banning State Park will be replaced in 2027. Work will begin in fall 2026, with project completion in fall 2027. Any 2026 camping reservations please note their will be no showers or flushing toilets available Updates will include accessibility upgrades such as an adult changing station, accessible gender-independent showers and popular features like dishwashing stations. The campground will be open for camping through Labor Day weekend in 2026 and will then close to begin demolition of the existing shower building. The campground is anticipated to be closed through the entire 2027 camping season. Updated April 15, 2026
Whitewater runs past Blueberry Slide and the ruins of the Banning sandstone quarry, with Wolf Creek Falls a short walk off the trail. Birders have counted 184 species along the Kettle; canoe-in sites put you on it.
$7 per vehicle — One-day vehicle permit $7; year-round permit $35 ($26 for an additional vehicle, $30 motorcycle, $12 with a disability permit). Free year-round permits for disabled veterans, active-duty military and members of Minnesota’s 11 federally recognized tribes.
