The road to the Hiking Club and Landmark Trail is now open The Interpretive/Visitor Center will be CLOSED for the rest of 2026, due to building construction. NOTE: The park will still have programs through MEA Weekend. Programs will be outside but may be canceled due to rain or inclement weather. Due to unforeseen circumstances associated with the construction work of the Visitor/Interpretive Center, we have decided to cancel Archaeology Day this year. Please look to our events calendar for alternate programming. Please practice bear safety while visiting. The fire tower is open Horse trails are open from May 1st. Water will be turned off for the season on Monday 19th October 2026. The traditional playground has been removed. We are currently working on a replacement. Updated September 1, 2026
Nine thousand years of people have passed through or lived on this ground, and it is a National Historic Landmark for it. Climb the 100-foot fire tower for Mille Lacs, rent a canoe on the Rum, and take a naturalist program.
$7 per vehicle — One-day vehicle permit $7; year-round permit $35 ($26 for an additional vehicle, $30 motorcycle, $12 with a disability permit). Free year-round permits for disabled veterans, active-duty military and members of Minnesota’s 11 federally recognized tribes.
