The southern part of Newport State Park experienced severe storms in 2025 and hundreds of trees along the trails and campsites were blown down. All trails and sites are open, however, campsites 6-13 were the most impacted. Reason: storm damage.

Newport SP Dark Sky Viewing Area Notice A construction project is taking place near Lot 3 at the Dark Sky Viewing Area at Newport State Park. The Dark Sky Viewing Area remains open, however, please use caution around the construction area and equipment. Reason: maintenance.
Eleven miles of Lake Michigan shore and 30 miles of trail across 2,300 acres, the quiet end of Door County and reached on foot. It carries Dark Sky Park designation, and all 17 sites are backpack-in.
