Posted May 23, 2023 - Saddle Mountain State Natural Area is open for day-use-only (open dawn to dusk), with no drinking water available. Bring your own water and wear clothing and footwear appropriate for a hike on a difficult trail that gains over 1,600 feet in elevation. Cell service is spotty so make sure you tell someone where you're going and when you plan to return before you hike. Pet owners should beware of loose wire ends on the wire mesh trail surface and consider bringing dog boots for the hike. Please anticipate weather-related closures. Snow accumulation and wind-thrown trees may prompt the need to close the park for safety.
Rare wildflowers and a 3,288-foot summit reached by a steep 2.4-mile trail climbing 1,634 feet through old growth. On a clear day the view runs from the mouth of the Columbia and miles of Pacific shoreline to the Cascades east.
