Posted Jun 11, 2026 - Vista House High Heat Closure Advisory Due to the historic nature of the Vista House at Crown Point and the building's lack of air conditioning, unscheduled closures may occur during periods of extreme heat to protect the health and safety of visitors, volunteers, and staff. The Vista House will close when forecasted or observed temperatures exceed 93°F. Closure decisions may be made with limited notice depending on weather conditions. We appreciate your understanding as we work to preserve this historic structure while providing a safe environment for all who visit. If you have questions regarding closures or would like additional information, please contact Park Management at Rooster Rock State Park.
Vista House opened in 1918 as a rest stop and observatory on the new Columbia River Highway, with marble floors and stained glass, 693 feet above the river. The promontory it stands on was where the highway was dedicated in 1916.
