About Sappington African American Cemetery State Historic Site

Land Dr. John Sappington set aside in 1856 for the people he enslaved, and afterwards a burial ground for generations of Black families in Arrow Rock — the last interment in 2012. Most of the 350 graves are unmarked; interpretive panels tell what is known.
