⚠️ Sunrise Trail partial closure

A portion of the Sunrise Trail north and west of the former county gravel pit travels across private property and is closed until further notice. Visitors can access the Sunrise Trail from the campground area then turn around at the property line. Alternatively, visitors can travel from the parking area at Sunrise Landing to the property line, then return to the parking lot. Through traffic is prohibited. At this time, there is not an alternative route for a through trail.

Electric site closures
Dates that electric sites will be closed for gravel work: August 31-September 4, and September 14-18, 2026.

Ranger station hours
The ranger station and nature store are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and usually until 8 or 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings. When it's closed, buy permits online.

Guest house closure
The guest house is closed until November 2026 for accessibility renovations and remodeling. We'll provide updates here - thank you for your support as we improve our facilities!

Snake River Campground is open
Wild River State Park also manages the Snake River Campground in the Chengwatana State Forest, an hour north of the park. The campground is open for the season.

About Wild River State Park

Eighteen miles of the St. Croix, with an easy day's paddle down to the park's southern access and an overlook where Nevers Dam stood. Camp semi-modern, group, equestrian, backpack or canoe-in, or book the guest house and light its fire.

Entrance fee

$7 per vehicle — One-day vehicle permit $7; year-round permit $35 ($26 for an additional vehicle, $30 motorcycle, $12 with a disability permit). Free year-round permits for disabled veterans, active-duty military and members of Minnesota’s 11 federally recognized tribes.
