⚠️ Lake Bronson dam replacement project

The Minnesota DNR has begun replacing the dam at Lake Bronson. The first step of this project was to draw down Lake Bronson's water level and as a result we currently do not have a lake open for public use. Construction was busy last season and that will continue throughout 2026 as well.

The project began in fall of 2024 and is expected to complete by July 2027. Learn more about the Lake Bronson dam replacement project.
The lakebed and lake surface are now closed for all uses, and visitors to the park must remain out for their own safety.
Fishing piers have been removed from the lake and all lake accesses are closed.
County Road 28 over the dam will remain closed for the duration of the project.

Be BearWise
Bears and people meet under a variety of circumstances. Encountering a bear can be a positive, memorable experience. Black bears, by nature, are wary of people and not normally aggressive. They are, however, large, powerful and surprisingly fast-moving animals. Anyone who encounters a bear should have healthy respect for it, but, at the same time, do not feel that it is an inherent threat.
There has been an increase in black bear activity in the park. Please be Bear wise when in the park. Fallow the six outdoor BearWise basics. Stay alert & stay together, leave no trash or food scraps, keep dogs leashed, camp safely, if you encounter a black bear, and carry bear spray or a bell & know how to use it.

About Lake Bronson State Park

No observation tower in any Minnesota state park stands taller, and from it the prairie and aspen-oak run to the horizon with sharp-tailed grouse and sandhill cranes below. WPA buildings and 14 miles of trail fill the ground; one campground sits out on open prairie.

Entrance fee

$7 per vehicle — One-day vehicle permit $7; year-round permit $35 ($26 for an additional vehicle, $30 motorcycle, $12 with a disability permit). Free year-round permits for disabled veterans, active-duty military and members of Minnesota’s 11 federally recognized tribes.
