Hikers on the Challenge trail should be prepared to cross a 40+ foot beaver dam at the south east edge of the trail. If you are unsure you will be able to make this crossing safely, please do not attempt it.

Two hundred and thirteen feet deep — no inland lake in the state goes deeper — inside ground surveyed as outstanding for biodiversity, twelve orchid species among it. Walleye, northern and bass in the water; a cold-water creek and a wild reach of the Mississippi alongside.
$7 per vehicle — One-day vehicle permit $7; year-round permit $35 ($26 for an additional vehicle, $30 motorcycle, $12 with a disability permit). Free year-round permits for disabled veterans, active-duty military and members of Minnesota’s 11 federally recognized tribes.
