The sanitation buildings will be closed for the season on October 4. You can find drinking water and vault toilets throughout the park. Flush toilets are available at the Trail Center year-round.

ATVs are not allowed in the park ATVs and side-by-sides are not allowed in Bear Head Lake State Park. Although some portions of the Taconite State Trail are open to ATVs and side-by-sides, the trail through Bear Head Lake State Park remains closed under MN Rules 6100.1900. Updated August 30, 2026.
Red and white pine ring a 674-acre lake, with moose, wolves and black bear in the country around it — the Boundary Waters begin a little further north. Sleep in a camper cabin or the three-bedroom guest house.
$7 per vehicle — One-day vehicle permit $7; year-round permit $35 ($26 for an additional vehicle, $30 motorcycle, $12 with a disability permit). Free year-round permits for disabled veterans, active-duty military and members of Minnesota’s 11 federally recognized tribes.
