General advisory
Posted Oct 20, 2023 - The two sink holes that formed at Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area in the lower northwest corner of the dune in January 2023 are due to sea caves located below the area, according to a report from Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI). Park staff have moved the constructed fence back about 50 feet based on DOGAMI recommendations. We ask that people respect this barrier and all park safety barriers. Even though the area is fenced off, the sink holes could change at any moment, and others could appear. If you see something that concerns you, leave the area and report it to park staff at 503-842-4981. In an emergency, call 911.
