About Hannah Duston Memorial Historic Site

Raised in 1874, this was the earliest statue New Hampshire paid for out of public funds, standing on an island where the Contoocook joins the Merrimack. It commemorates Hannah Duston, seized at Haverhill in 1697 during King William's War and later escaped; the parking area is a short stroll from a picnic spot on the water.
