About Fort Constitution Historic Site
Fort ruins on a spit at New Castle Island's northeastern tip, with the Piscataqua on one side and open ocean on the other. Ceded to the federal government in 1791 when it was still Fort William and Mary, it was rebuilt by 1808 with walls twice their colonial height; the grounds now suit a casual picnic.
