About Fort Atkinson State Historical Park

One of the earliest US military posts west of the Missouri, established in 1820 on the recommendation of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and active until 1827. Barracks, gates, an armourer's shop and the Sutler Store have been rebuilt at Fort Calhoun.
