Backpack Campground Well Update: The backpack campground solar well has been repaired and is available for use. Thank you for your patience while repairs and inspections were completed. Updated August 23, 2026
Bur oak and big bluestem hold the ridgetops, and the ravines below fall 300 feet to the river. Every campsite is walk-in, backpack or yurt; the beach and visitor center sit at the bottom of the hill.

Entrance fee
$7 per vehicle — One-day vehicle permit $7; year-round permit $35 ($26 for an additional vehicle, $30 motorcycle, $12 with a disability permit). Free year-round permits for disabled veterans, active-duty military and members of Minnesota’s 11 federally recognized tribes.
