About Salamonie River State Forest
Created in the mid-1930s to reclaim eroded bluffs above the Salamonie, whose name comes from a Native American word for the yellow paint made from bloodroot. A 200-strong CCC camp built Hominy Ridge Lake and its stone shelter house.
