Posted Jul 30, 2026 - Horsethief Lake at Columbia Hills State Park is unsafe for people and pets. Do not swim in the lake. Do not drink the lake water. Keep pets out of the water. Clean fish well and discard all guts. Avoid areas of scum when boating. Lake status will be updated as conditions change.

Notification Posted Jul 3, 2026 - Climbers, please be aware that the following 2026 dates Horsethief Butte may be congested due to climbing groups in the area. We suggest you plan to visit during the week when the area is less congested. We will continue to update throughout the season: Aug 5, 8- 9, Oct 17-18.
Shrub-steppe, high-desert panoramas and river shoreline, with climbing, biking and horseback riding. Native American petroglyphs and the region's geology are what bring most people.
