About Old Iron Town State Monument

Iron County's second try at making iron. Iron City had its own school and smithy beside the foundry, yet poor transport and the financial panic of 1874 shut it after only seven years. Two quarter-mile trails pass the furnace ruins, a beehive charcoal kiln and a cabin's remains; Frontier Homestead in Cedar City has the tour brochure.
