Aug. 24, 2026 - The park is under a burn ban. No wood or charcoal fires allowed. You may use containerized fuel stoves (i.e. propane) for cooking only.

Special Events
The park is hosting a Halloween event on Oct. 10. Halloween decorations will be set up in the day-use area and along portions of the Pileated and Nature trails throughout October. The primitive group camp, primitive campsites, and Bullinger Lodge and Dining Hall will be closed. Expect heavier traffic for the event.
Trail Racing Over Texas will be holding two runs in the park. Expect heavy traffic on trails on the following dates:
Saturday, Sept.12, from 5 p.m. to midnight
Saturday, Nov. 7, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. or later

Park Closures
The park will be closed on the following dates:
Noon Nov. 29 to 8 a.m. Dec. 4
Noon Jan. 3 to 8 a.m. Jan. 8
Only permitted hunters will be allowed on these dates.
