This trail is considered strenuous with significant elevation gain and up to a 14-mile hike. During this renovation, we encourage campers to check out our nearby parks. Some nearby parks to consider are: Cumberland Mountain State Park: Tent and RV sites and cabins, 47 miles away. Big Ridge State Park: Tent and RV sites, 50 miles away.

Flintlock-style Hunt at Frozen Head
During the opening weekend of the 2026 muzzleloader season (November 7th – 8th), Frozen Head State Park will partner with TWRA for a special Flintlock-style rifle-only hunt. This partnership celebrates the history of Appalachia with a distinctive and historically grounded hunting experience. For those interested in participating in the event, a Flintlock Hunting Permit application must be completed. This free permit will need to be printed and placed in the dash window of the participant's vehicle, as well as with the participant at all times.
