About LaFramboise Island Nature Area
Lewis and Clark saw elk and buffalo on this Missouri River island in 1804, naming it Good Humored Island; Joseph LaFramboise, whose fort stood where the Bad River meets it, gave the current name. Cottonwood, cedar and ash shade its hiking, biking and ski trails beside Pierre.
