Named for the fort Washington's troops threw up in the autumn of 1777 before wintering at Valley Forge, and thick with flowering dogwood each spring. Popular with hikers and, from the Militia Hill hawk watch, with raptor counters.
The park is open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset. Day use areas open at 8:00 A.M. and close at sunset.
