Posted Mar 15, 2026 - Some beaches have seasonal recreation restrictions during nesting season for the western snowy plover. On these beaches, foot and equestrian traffic are permitted on wet sand only; all other recreation is prohibited. Be sure to check if your dog is allowed—some areas require leashes, while others prohibit dogs entirely to protect these threatened birds. Areas with special rules are marked on the beach with signs. Oregon's entire public shoreline, from the Columbia River to the California border and between the vegetation line and extreme low tide. The Oregon Coast Trail runs 362 miles along it, and many sections make excellent day walks.
